*** THIS PROJECT WAS FEATURED IN THE 2014 RYERSON SCHOOL OF INTERIOR DESIGN YEAR AND SHOW, AND IT WON THE AWARD FOR BEST VERTICAL STUDIO PROJECT
MUSIKHAUS Centre for Sound Arts provides the community of Cambridge with a space for experiencing, creating, and learning about music. The proposed programming of this project connects the classical foundations of music with the more contemporary sounds of today. This connection is echoed in the architecture of the space through the modern intervention of this historic building along the rivers edge.

MUSIKLEBEN Artist’s Residence, located on the third floor of MUSIKHAUS provides the performing musicians with a comfortable and unique living experience. The main living area is open concept, encouraging collaborative music opportunities. Re-enforcing this concept is the open/closed bedroom concept that allows the musicians to open their private space so that everyone can work together. Within the central space are three “Musik Boxes”, located at three different heights within the main living space, allowing a private, but collaborative space for the musicians to practice.

CINE - Vertical Studio Group Assignment Year 2 (Panel Layout)
CINE provides the community of Hespeler with new theatre and dining experiences. The proposed restaurant on the first floor will feature original Mexican food, a cuisine that the people of Hespeler have yet to experience. A grandiose bar is the focal point of the space, which is adjacent to communal tables, emphasizing the intention of bringing the community together. The unconventional theatre space located in the basement will house multipurpose amphitheater style seating that continues into the adjoining exterior space. The space is designed to be welcoming and casual, without having a set program during off times. Located on the second floor is a space for the performers, directors, and special guests to call home. The residence features a large patio and a space for the performers to both practice, and unwind. The three unique spaces of CINE are tied together through an angle that mimics the entrance of the original post office building. The angle is expressed on the interior differently on each floor, through directionality, ceiling treatments, and circulation. CINE will be a creative hub for the community, a space where everyone can come together to create, watch, and partake in theatre. Not only will it provide Hespeler with a place to unite, but it will also reach out to the surrounding schools, universities, and cities to partake in writing, producing, lighting, and many more aspects of the theatre umbrella.
