Parallel - Furniture Design Group Assignment (Panel Layout)
*** THIS PROJECT WAS FEATURED IN THE 2015 RYERSON SCHOOL OF INTERIOR DESIGN YEAR END SHOW AND AWARDED SECOND PLACE IN THE 2015 MAKO INNOVATION AWARDS
The concept behind “Parallel” evolved from the growing desire to have spaces and products that are multi-functioning and collapsible. In Toronto today, the average square footage of a condo is under 800 square feet, which suggests that there is a need for products that have multiple uses, or can be easily put away when not in use. The need for products such as this one is not however limited to the housing market. It also reaches places such as institutions, and schools.
Each piece of Parallel utilizes minimal space, and the interconnecting design allows for the diamonds to be adaptable and interchangeable. One of the most important things to any individual is having the sense of pride, individualism, and control. This product allows the user to have control over not only the look of their space, but also the function, and since they were a large part in the design, they also feel proud of their unique space. Parallel can be assembled into several different forms, including but not limited to: a bench, a stool, a desk, and a simple shelving unit.
The clean lines and minimalistic design of Parallel also allows for easy storage when the product is not being used. The designers made it a goal to have no additional pieces on the interior or exterior. The intention is that nothing will interfere with the ability for the product to be stackable and incredibly versatile, such as hinges, or visible locks. The felt acts as both a connection piece between the pieces of wood, and a source of friction so the pieces don’t slide when they are joined together.

POD - Umbra Design Competition
POD is a stylish and modern solution to watch and jewelry storage.
The concept of POD originated from the stale designs of current watch storage and display solutions. However, after developing an understanding of the market, realized it would be beneficial to incorporate other types of jewelry storage into the product. Currently, it has space to store watches, and earrings, but in the future will likely have space for bracelets and necklaces as well.
One of the key features is that each pod is easily removable and easily accessible by the user. and feels light, airy, and unique. Completely customizable by the user in its orientation, POD is rethinking how people store and access their jewelry.
